American Farm School
A project realized at the facilities of the Dimitris Perrotis College of Agricultural Studies at the American Farm School. In 2009, the Administration of the American Farm School, following a generous donation by benefactress Aliki Perrotis, decided to proceed with the creation of a new, modern Student Residence Hall to accommodate approximately 100 students, embodying the School’s values and philosophy of promoting and supporting sustainable development.
The Student Residence complex is developed across three levels, following the natural slope of the terrain in order to integrate optimally with its surroundings. Its key features contribute to its ecological performance and, consequently, to significant energy savings. All principles of bioclimatic architecture were adopted during the design phase, and pioneering mechanical systems were incorporated. Particular attention was also given to the selection of ecological materials and the application of water-saving technologies. The building was awarded 1st Prize in the residential category at the [B]green Competition for the recognition of realized sustainable buildings in Greece, in 2011.
